History and accreditationIn 1980, Wayne and Virginia Plylar established their first Montessori school in Spartanburg for approximately 40 children including their own children. It began in the basement of their home but quickly outgrew that venue and was moved to Spring Street in downtown Spartanburg. In 1992, Montessori West was built on Highway 29 (now W. H. Abernathy Hwy) to serve parents and children on the west side of Spartanburg. In 2002, the school began the transition to a Christian Montessori school. Montessori West Christian School (MWCS) today offers Christian Montessori teaching to approximately 85 preschool children. MWCS is a member of the Christian Montessori Fellowship. |
